"You know what? The bastard blows me out of the water. This guy writes Maine like Ardai writes New York. If you're not reading him, you don't know what you're missing." --Chris F. Holm, author of "The Collector" series, The Killing Kind, and Red Right Hand.

"A refreshingly new voice in noir." --Ed Kurtz, author of Nothing You Can Do and The Rib From Which I Remake the World.

"A glorious boilermaker of noir and East Coast gothic. The action is taut as a sprung snare and Bagley tightens the screws with every page." -- Laird Barron, author of Swift to Chase and Blood Standard.

40

I turned 40 today. I guess it's supposed to be some kind of watershed moment, but it feels like any other day. There were kids to feed, messes to clean, chores to do and pages to write, a class to teach later on tonight. Maybe I just haven't had time to get depressed about it.

Happy Birthday, Patrick. You'll always be 19 years younger than Jeff Bridges.

Forty is only a watershed moment when you're under twenty. In my fifty-nine years, I've learned that you keep pushing those "moments" further into the future as you age.
They mean something until you get there and then you realize, as you demonstrated, that they really mean nothing in the scheme of things.
By the way, Happy Birthday!

Happy birthday, and believe me, you're just getting started.

Try 60 on for size. It doesn't feel like any other day. The happiest of days to you.

Happy Birthday, Patrick!

For me, the only birthday that felt different was 25. 40 was just the day that I got to, um, what? Oh, drink as much as I wanted because I wasn't driving.

Well, that was different. Of course, I had only two drinks, but that's one more than usual!

Have a good one!

Happy Birthday, Patrick!! The older you get the more your birthday feels just like any other day. But that doesn't mean you can't treat yourself to something special.

Happy birthday, P! I hope that 80's hair comes back for your birthday. (Oh, wait, that's *my* wish... sorry...)

That 80s hair isn't coming back without plugs or some of that Ronco spray-on hair.

Thanks to everyone for the happy birthday wishes.

And Gerald, no matter how old he gets, Jeff Bridges will always be the Dude.

Happy birthday! Forty. Wow. That's old.

I only like saying that because I'm 39.

What a coincidence. I turn 40 tomorrow, on the 6th. Happy B-day! I concur with you not really feeling old. Having an elementary-age boy around keeps me young. At best, I'm probably 9 or so (the way I act). ;-)
